Plot

Norwegian director Joachim Trier tells the story of three men united by the death of one woman who are forced to learn to deal with the loss of one of the pillars of their life. Jonah, played by Jesse Eisenberg, decides to return home to celebrate a photographic exhibition on the work of his mother's planned as a reminder to her death three years earlier. Because of that he will have to spend more time with his father, Gene (Gabriel Byrne), who is a teacher, and his younger brother, Conrad, played by Devin Druid. The three, together again in the same house, will have to strengthen their ties while trying to reconcile the harboring feelings about the death of their loved one and the circumstances surrounding it. Gene, aware of the ephemeral nature of life, wants to spend more time with his children, a couple of young men who will soon find that they remind their mother in a very different way. Amy Ryan, Isabelle Huppert, Ruby Jerins and Rachel Brosnahan complete the cast of this film written by Trier himself and Eskil Vogt.
