'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them': Meet the Protagonists

How much do we really know about the 'Fantastic Beasts' cast? Many of the protagonists aren't well known to us, it's time to discover where have we seen them before and where are we going to see them next.

Let's be honest, the Harry Potter books and films would not have been quite the same without the array of magical creatures that J.K. Rowling threw into her weird and wonderful wizarding world. From Fluffy the three-headed dog in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone', the slimy Basilisk in 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', to Aragog the giant spider, and who can forget those soul-sucking Dementors that continually pop up out of nowhere?

'Fantastic Beasts'

Well, as we all know, the Harry Potter franchise continues to grow, with the next installment in the form of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. With a script by J.K. Rowling, the film presents a new batch of magical creatures that will descend upon our big screens this November ready to cause havoc in the wizarding world.

Before you all rush to the cinema to get the best seat, popcorn in hand, we thought we would give you a bit of inside information and interesting facts on the main characters of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. So, without any further ado, here are 10 Fantastic Actors and Where to Find Them...

Gnarlack

10 Ron Perlman

Born: 13th April, 1950 (New York City, USA)

Perlman plays the American goblin gangster named Gnarlack. The creature ran a magical liquor shop during the 1920s in the large northern neighbourhood of Harlem, New York. The protagonist, Newt Scamander, encounters the creature when he visits Gnarlack's shop whilst searching for information.

Where have you seen him before? Perlman has appeared in countless stage plays, feature films and television productions. His most accredited performances have been as 'Hellboy' in the superhero saga, the television drama series 'Sons of Anarchy' and the film 'Blade II'.

Where will you see him next? The American actor is set to star in the upcoming television series 'Trollhunters' playing the voice of a character named Bullar. He is also appearing in the comedy 'Pottersville', and is rumoured to have a role in 'Pacific Rim: Maelstorm' which is set to be released in 2018.

Jon Voight

9 Jon Voight

Born: December 29th, 1938 (New York City, USA)

The New Yorker plays Henry Shaw Sr. in 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. Shaw Sr. is an American muggle and father of Henry Shaw Jr, a US senator in the 1920s. In 1926, he held a rally for supporters in New York which was picketed by members of the New Salem Philanthropic Society.

Where have you seen him before? Jon Voight played Jonas Hodges in the television series '24'. He has also had parts in films such as 'Mission: Impossible', 'Heat' and 'Transformers'.

Where will you see him next? It has been announced that the American will appear in 'Reagan', a drama based on the life of former American president Ronald Reagan. Jon Voight will also be on your big screens in an American drama film based on the book 'Same Kind of Different As Me' which will be released in 2017.

Samatha Morton

8 Samantha Morton

Born: May 13th, 1977 (Nottingham, United Kingdom)

The British actress will play Mary Lou Barebone, who was also an American muggle during the 20th century. Barebone was the leader of the New Salem Philanthropic Society, an extremist group who aimed to eradicate witchcraft in the United States.

Where have you seen her before? Since making her debut in 2001, Samantha Morton has featured in films such as 'Minority Report', 'John Carter' and 'In America'. She also played the character of Namoi Franckom in the TV series 'The Last Panther'.

Where will you see her next? The actress will appear in the 2017 film 'Magik', which also features Benedict Cumberbatch. After that, Morton is scheduled to be part of the TV series 'Harlots', playing the protagonist Margaret Wells in 18th century England.

Dan Fogler

7 Dan Fogler

Born: October 20th, 1976 (New York City, USA)

The character of Jacob Kowalski has the pleasure of being played by Dan Fogler. Another muggle from the states, Kowalski returned to America after the first world war to work in a factory with the dream of being a baker. He met Newt Scamander on his travels and through him was introduced to the wizarding world.

Where have you seen him before? Fogler has played the voices in popular animated films such as 'Kung Fu Panda' and 'Horton Hears a Who!'. The American has also appeared in 'Balls of Fury' and 'Fanboys', as well as the TV show 'The Goldbergs'.

Where will you see him next? He is currently in the production process of an American comedy called 'Making the Day', a film about an actor who tries to get his career back on track by making an independent film. Fogler plays one of the protagonists named Tony Guest.

Carmen Ejogo

6 Carmen Ejogo

Born: October 22nd, 1973 (London, United Kingdom)

In 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them', Carmen Ejogo plays the American witch and president of the Magical Congress of the United States of America, Madam Seraphina Picquery. She is described as a formidable and charismatic woman.

Where have you seen her before? Ejogo has featured in movies such as 'The Brave One' and the American horror 'The Purge'. She has also appeared in the TV series 'Chaos', playing the character of Fay Carson.

Where will you see her next? The Londoner will be in the spotlight in the 2017 film 'Alien:Covenant'. She will also appear in an American horror called 'It Comes at Night' which will also be released in 2017.

Colin Farrell

5 Colin Farrell

Born: May 31st, 1976 (Dublin, Ireland)

Colin Farrell plays Percival Graves, a wizard who lived in the 20th century. Working as the Director of Magical Security, Newton Scamander met him in New York in 1926. Graves was put in charge of investigating and tracking down Newt when the creatures escape from his suitcase.

Where have you seen him before? Farrell is one of Ireland's rising stars in Hollywood and has had major parts in 'The Minority Report', 'Phone Booth', 'Horrible Bosses' and 'Miami Vice'.

Where will you see him next? The Irishman is currently filming for an American drama called 'The Killing of a Sacred Deer' which is set to be released in 2017. After, Farrell will appear in 'The Beguilded', a Western about a soldier who is held captive in a Confederate girl boarding school.

Ezra Miller

4 Ezra Miller

Born: September 30th, 1992 (New Jersey, USA)

Miller plays Credence Barebone, the adopted sun of Mary Lou Barebone. A troubled and shy boy, he is vulnerable to manipulation by Percival Graves, who ends up taking a personal interest in him.

Where have you seen him before? The American has had roles in 'Trainwreck' and 'Madame Bovary'. He has also appeared in the popular TV series 'Californication', playing the role of Damien.

Where will you see him next? He is currently filming for 'Justice League', set to come out in 2017, where he plays The Flash. After that, he will then be the protagonist to the same character in 'The Flash' which will be released in 2018.

Alison Sudol

3 Alison Sudol

Born December 23rd, 1984 (Washington, USA)

Queenie Goldstein is played by Alison Sudol, an American witch and sister of Porpentina Goldstein. She was sharing a flat with her sister in New York when the pair were introduced to Scamander. Goldstein worked in the wand permit office at the Magical Congress.

Where have you seen her before? Sudol has performed in the TV series 'One Tree Hill' and 'House', as well as the more recent popular show 'Suits' where she appeared for one episode. She is also known for her music band A Fine Frenzy. 'Pines' is her last album.

Where will you see her next? The American actress doesn't have any future projects lined up as of yet after 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'.

Katherine Waterston

2 Katherine Waterston

Born: March 3rd, 1980 (London, United Kingdom)

Waterston plays the American witch and former Auror for the Magical Congress of the United States of America, Porpentina Goldstein. She met Newt Scamander when he came to the city in search of magical creatures.

Where have you seen her before? She has starred in 'Being Flynn', 'Steve Jobs' and 'Michael Clayton'. The English actress has also featured in the TV series 'Boardwalk Empire' playing as Emma Harrow.

Where will you see her next? Katherine Waterston is currently filming for 'State Like Sleep', an American drama set to be released in 2017. She is also set to feature in 'Alien: Covenant', along with Carmen Ejogo.

Eddie Redmayne

1 Eddie Redmayne

Born: January 6th, 1982 (London, United Kingdom)

Eddie Redmayne plays the protagonist of the film, Newt Scamander who is a famed Magizoologist and author of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. After being expelled from Hogwarts, he joined the Ministry of Magic before being commissioned by Obscurus Books to write his best selling novel.

Where have you seen him before? After his successful theatre career, he made the move to the big screen and has become one of the rising stars in the film industry. The British actor has starred in notable projects such as 'Les Misérables', 'The Danish Gir'' and 'The Theory of Everything'.

Where will you see him next? There is no doubt Redmayne is an actor in demand, and he is set to feature in upcoming films such as 'The Last Days of Night', a film about the American entrepreneurs George Westinghouse and Thomas Edison.
