A difficult question for you all. Which death in the 'Harry Potter' saga made us suffer the most? Theres a fair few to choose from. Dobby? Hedwig? Fred Weasley? Sirius Black? Dumbledore? Yep, it's a difficult one to choose.

2nd May is an important date in the Harry Potter diary. It is the anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, a gruesome battle between witches and wizards where many lives were lost. For the past couple of years, the author of the books,

J.K. Rowling, has made the effort to apologise to her fans for killing off characters in the brutal battle in the final installment of the saga.

In 2015 she apologised for the death of Fred Weasley and in 2016 she decided to say sorry for killing off Remus Lupin. The anniversary has passed in 2017 and on the 2nd May Rowling wasted no time in apologising for a very controversial death in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II'. The death she chose to show her sorrow for this year is that of Professor Snape.

Snape, played by the late Alan Rickman, was one of Rowlings most complex creations in her books and his death came as a surprise to many. As the author took to Twitter to apologise for his death, the reaction from fans around the world was incredible.

Snape, good or bad guy?

If you have followed the story from the start, you will know that Snape is one of the most complex characters and the question about his motives and whether he is good or bad has been debated countless times. The initial reaction from the first film, 'Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone' to around the time of the fifth film, 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' was that Snape should be disliked due to the way he made life difficult for many students at Hogwarts.

After discovering that he was once a death eater, you maybe hated him even more but there was always this other voice telling us that if Dumbledore trusted in him, then everyone should trust in him. The moment when Harry found out Snape's was in fact protecting Harry because he was in love with his mother turned the tables and broke the hearts of many fans. However, there are still some mixed opinions out there regarding whether Snape is a good or a bad guy which leads to interesting debates between fans. What do you think? One thing we do now know is that J.K. Rowling is sorry for his death. Which character's death will be she apologising for next year? We'll find out in May 2018.
