Tom Hardy doesn't seem to be taking his foot off the pedal any time soon. After receiving his first Oscar nomination in 2016 for 'The Revenant', the Londoner started off 2017 with the release of 'Taboo', the new BBC series which he plays the lead role in as well as being the joint creator of the show alongside Steven Knight and his father, Edward Hardy. In his busy agenda, Hardy seems to have kept an available slot for the possibility of playing one of the most famous characters in world cinema.

The character we are talking about is Ian Fleming's fictional British spy, James Bond, whose current actor seems to be coming to the end of his journey as the agent with a licence to kill. The statements coming from Daniel Craig have been mixed, however he has made clear that is becoming more appropriate to find a new Bond. It is always a popular talking point, especially between Brits, about who in the world of acting would be able to pull of the famous spy. One name that has popped up on the list is the terrific Tom Hardy, who hasn't refused to show interest in playing Mr Bond. Who can blame him?

In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, the actor refused to budge when asked whether he would star in a James Bond film directed by Christopher Nolan, who has recently shown interest in the franchise with the likes of Michael Fassbender as a villain. This was his answer: "Oh, wow, Chris would be amazing! Wow, that would be cool. That would be so cool." The actor and director have worked before on three occasions, so there is no doubt the feeling would be mutual with regards to a potential partnering.

Although Hardy was reluctant to mention any possibility of playing James Bond, he did have this to say: "There's a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, that if you talk about it you're automatically out of the race. So I can't possibly comment on that one! But Chris Nolan, what a fantastic director for a Bond movie. Because Daniel Craig is so good, and what Sam Mendes and Barbara Broccoli have done has been so impressive, that it would be a very hard to follow."

American gangster

Hardy's last production with Nolan, 'Dunkirk' is set to hit the big screens in July 2017, but the actor has, understandably, got much more lined up. One of his next projects is 'Fonzo', a film about the American gangster Al Capone which is written and directed by Josh Trank. Hardy seems very excited about the project: "This is a completely different piece that I'm very excited by with Josh Trank set to direct. He's written something that's quite out of left-field and like nothing I've read before. I've spent quite a lot of time with Josh and he's passionate and effusive about it, and I'm excited to get on with that. It's not Al Capone as I expected him, which is what I really loved about it. When taking on an icon, you're always looking for something inventive and compelling and has a new angle, and I think Josh has found that."
