It's not the first time we've heard news like this. It is however, the first time someone of importance has stated the fact. Josh Sapan, CEO at AMC has confirmed that the future of 'The Walking Dead' is a long way off. The series could even be compared with that of 'Star Wars', 'Harry Potter' or 'Star Trek' in terms of longevity.

 Rick Grimes TWD

The CEO spoke to Deadline and mentioned the importance of the term 'franchise': "we don't take (it) lightly... We've studied the best. Some have been around 30, 40, 50 years. We have a chance for a lot of life in the franchise".

The TV series, which is based on the comics created by Robert Kirkman, premiered in 2010, and is currently airing its 8th season. Recently, the show celebrated its 100th episode, an accomplishment that not every series gets to commemorate. Despite already being quite established, the franchise just keeps growing with all types of merchandise including a video game!

The first big step

The first clue that the producers were beginning to look to the future of TWD came with the announcement of a 'Fear the Walking Dead' crossover. The linking between the two shows will be the first of its kind in TWD universe, and we can't wait. There's still no confirmed date for the crossover, and we don't really know much about it, although one suspects it will occur sometime next year in either show. Robert Kirkman confirmed they were looking to incorporate the crossover in 2018.
