'American Horror Story' fans rejoice, for, Ryan Murphy's blood-curdling TV series is not only returning for an eighth season: it's bringing with it a familiar face: Kathy Bates. The Oscar winning actress will be returning to the FX produced series after leaving at the end of season 6, 'American Horror Story: Roanoke'. Bates parted ways with the show due to timetable clashes with Netflix show, 'Disjointed'. But no harm done, for, the latter series has since been cancelled, meaning Bates is free to return to terrorise AHS fans once again.

One of Bates' characters in AHS

As announced by Entertainment Weekly, Bates won't be returning alone: Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will be right alongside her. Ryan Murphy was happy to reveal: "Kathy and Sarah Paulson have a lot of great stuff to get to do. So, with Evan Peters, the three of them are the leads this year".

After 8 seasons, it's proving harder and harder for Murphy to surprise audiences, but at least with Kathy Bates on his side, the show's guaranteed to bring in the masses. Murphy has already hinted as to what the upcoming series could be about, but refused to elaborate.

A radioactive season

Currently, the producer is revelling in the success of his other show 'American Crime Story: The Assassination of Versace', but that's not to say he's not aware of the rumours circulating about the possible title of the upcoming AHS season. Many believe AHS season 8 may be titled Radioactive, but Murphy's been pretty tight-lipped about it all saying, "I heard about that rumor. Well, that's based on a fact that we've cleared a lot of titles for that show. It's an interesting idea. I can neither confirm nor deny".

Will Murphy go for a season set in a dystopian future, after a nuclear war, perhaps, we wonder. Only time will tell, we're afraid; we're still awaiting an official statement, after all.
