Riggs' commentary comes following the death of Carl Grimes on 'The Walking Dead'. The latest episode in the series, saw Carl injured and killed by a zombie at the end of the first half of the eighth season. Chandler Riggs spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his situation: "I was planning on going to college until I found out. I found out when I was doing rehearsals for episode six back in June. It was quite the shocker for me... because I don't think anyone saw it coming... Now I get to go and do a lot of other stuff that I haven't gotten to do before."

Sadness on set

Most fans thought Carl would have had a place on the show forever. In the comics, Carl is still very much alive and has just been involved in an important storyline.

Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes, also had a few words to say. "Scott Gimple always makes a phone call to everybody, and he said to me, «You're going to hate this one.» And I mentioned four names. None of them were right, and he had to tell me that it was the kid".

"It's all having to do with the greater story of the season... It has everything to do with what happens throughout the rest of season eight", Gimple himself mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter.

The second part of season 8 will air in February 2018.
