After many months of waiting, much delay, and a whole year without new episodes from your favourite series, 'Game of Thrones', you can now breath a sigh of relief as the eighth and final season has now been given a release date. The first of the final six episodes will be streaming next April of 2019 on HBO.

Game of Thrones

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bryan Cogman, the executive co-producer of the series, stated that the last season would reunite all the characters within the fiction to defeat a common enemy while "dealing with their own past and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death". As cheerful as always, then.

This media also revealed that the imminent eighth installment would feature the most ambitious and exciting scene in all of the fiction so far: the battle between the living and the dead. Kit Harington, the face of the first image of this last season (shown below), described the shooting for the battle as "relentless; scenes that would have been a one-day shoot five years ago are now a five-day shoot". In fact, it took almost two ice-cold months to complete the filming for this battle, thus the season will be dedicating an entire episode to the final showdown.

Furthermore, much like the last season, the story told in these last six episodes will move considerably away from the story told in the literary saga, presenting new, original plots with the hope of surprising the audience. It has also been divulged that many of these episodes will have a longer running time than has been the usual before.

Beyond 'Game of Thrones'

Although we will soon have to say goodbye to 'Game of Thrones', we are far from leaving George R. R. Martin's universe behind completely; HBO already finds themselves preparing the first spin-off based on the series, starring Naomi Watts. After her appearance in 'Gypsy' and return to 'Twin Peaks', the actress will be returning to the small screen to play "a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret."

The eighth and final season of 'Game of Thrones' will be available from next April on HBO.
