The first trailer for the sequel to the 2008 hit 'Mamma Mia', 'Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!' has been released and the internet has already been set alight with reactions.

If you view the trailer with a watchful eye, it will quickly become apparent that Meryl Streep doesn't feature in the film as much as we would've liked. In fact, Streep only appears for a few seconds at time, and the scenes in which she's present look to be taken from the past. The only scene that we believe to take place in present day plays out in a church and sees Streep's character Donna alongside her daughter (Amanda Seyfried), but there's something off about the scene...

Given all of that, some fans are beginning to wonder whether Donna could be dead in the sequel? Some fans took to Twitter to vent about the prospect.

We already knew that the sequel would focus on Donna in her younger years, and so we were right in suspecting we'd see a lot more of Lily James (young Donna), as opposed to Streep. We weren't expecting to see so little of the latter actress, however. Majority of the cast from the first film have reprised their roles in the sequel, and from the trailer, it appears as though they all have a lot more screen time that Streep. Could it all just be a bid to rouse anticipation for the film, or could the sequel really be bringing forth a dreaded plot twist?

 Mamma Mia 2

At least we have Cher

Despite the worry over Donna and her impending future, the trailer introduced Cher to the 'Mamma Mia' universe. The pop diva's appearance in 'Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!' marks her return to acting after a 10 year break, and what better way to make an entrance than by helicopter?

Cher will play Seyfried's Grandma in the sequel and so Donna's mother. With only 3 years difference in age between Meryl Streep and Cher - we'll have to see how the latter mother-daughter relationship plays out!
