'Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows' premiered back in 2011, so it's fair to say, a third instalment has been a long time coming. The second film continued the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, although that doesn't appear to have been enough for fans, including actor Robert Downey Jr., who expressed his desire to return for a third film. Finally, after much speculation, news has hit that we'll get a third 'Sherlock Holmes' film in 2020.

 Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson

Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures have given a premature release date of 25th Decemeber 2020. Robert Downey Jr. is set to return as the legendary detective alongside Jude Law, who'll be reprising his role as Holmes' assistant, Dr. Watson. There's no news as of yet on who'll be directing the film, but Chris Brancato has been selected to write the screenplay.

'Sherlock Holmes 3' will hit cinemas a whopping eleven years after the film. The second film, 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' raked in a global total of over $545 million.

2020 Releases

December 2020 is already packed full of potential releases. 'Sherlock Holmes 3' isn't the only film set to screen on Christmas day, for 'Sing! 2' is also expected to release Stateside on that day. We'll have to wait until 29th January to see that one. James Cameron's 'Avatar 2' is set for an 18th December 2020 release.
