'The Handmaid's Tale' finds itself in a spot of look at the moment. After becoming one of the most watched shows on Hulu, the show was recognised as best drama TV series and also won triumphed when protagonist Elisabeth Moss won best actress for a drama TV series at this year's Golden Globe awards.

 'The Handmaid's Tale'

The streaming service Hulu, which distributes the show in the US has revealed that the series is set to return for its second season on 25th April 2018. The second series will boast thirteen episodes, according to Entertainment Weekly. A UK release date is yet to be announced.

The new trailer teases the ordeal waiting for Offred in the dystopian world of Gilead, and it doesn't spell good news if the disturbing scenes are anything to go by. The trailer also gives us a first look at the colonies, areas of North America that exiles call their home.

A symbol of female rebellion

Many consider 'The Handmaid's Tale' as a fictional depiction of a post-Weinstein world, and the similarities aren't lost on us. The idea of a woman who gains strength and a mindset revolutionary enough to overcome a dictatorship is a lot like the Time's Up campaign: women in Hollywood are finally speaking up, fighting back and empowering themselves.
