After the infamously heart-wrenching ending to 'Toy Story 3', it is going to be hard to live up to fans' expectations and 'Toy Story 4' might well be Pixar's most controversial film to date. Despite this, Disney is ploughing on and have now released the first two teaser trailers for this fourth installment in the franchise.

In the first trailer we see the familiar faces of the toys we know, such as Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and Mr Potato Head. The clip shows a slow-motion shot of the friends dancing hand in hand, but the camera then pans to one unfamiliar face: a fork with an identity crisis. At the end of the clip the character, Forky, who will be voiced by Tony Hale, screams "I don't belong here", running away in panic.

Alongside this first trailer, they have also released an official synopsis of the plot: "Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that's Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called "Forky" to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy." Below is one of the official posters which has also been released at the same time.

If you are still skeptical of the whole situation, perhaps the words from director Josh Cooley ('Inside Out') can provide some reassurance. Cooley assured fans, via ComingSoon, "just like in life, every ending is a new beginning. Woody now being in a new room, with new toys, and a new kid, was something we have never seen before. The questions of what that would be like became the beginning of an entertaining story worth exploring. [...] A toy's purpose is to be there for its child. But what about toys that are made out of other objects? Forky is a toy that Bonnie made out of a disposable spork, so he's facing a crisis. He wants to fulfill his purpose as a spork, but now has a new toy purpose thrust upon him."

Teaser 2

Only 24 hours after the first trailer was released a second, featuring two new soft toys, known as Ducky and Bunny, who are prizes waiting to be won by a child at a fair. Jordan Peele (director of 'Get Out') and Keegan-Michael Key ('Predator') voice these two hilarious new characters. Cooley described the pair as "two of the most brilliant minds I've ever seen." He continued their praises, saying, "they are effortlessly funny, which would be enough. But they are incredible actors that understand story. Their improvs weren't just for comedy sake, they were story motivated which elevated Ducky and Bunny and the film to a level I never could have expected."

Perhaps a fourth 'Toy Story' isn't all bad news... The film will be released in June 2019.
