Plot
Since the dawn of humanity, the sea has been a source of food, refuge, and sustenance. Entire civilizations have risen and thrived thanks to the generosity of the oceans, which offered fish, shellfish, and other marine species in abundance. Today, in the 21st century, that relationship is more crucial than ever: nearly 4 billion people—half of the world's population—depend directly or indirectly on marine resources for survival.
Fish has become one of the most consumed foods on the planet, a key piece in global food security. However, as demand increases, uncomfortable questions arise: Do we really know where that food comes from? Who catches it, under what conditions, and at what cost to marine ecosystems? This story is an invitation to look beyond the plate, to dive into the depths of a global supply chain that often operates out of public view, but a situation that affects us all in equal manner.
We face the urgent challenge of protecting the oceans without giving up their resources, finding the balance in a world that struggles to get done both things right. Understanding the journey of fish, from the sea to our table, is the first step toward achieving a balance between human nourishment and the health of the blue planet we inhabit.
