Plot
'48 Hrs.' is an American cop movie who mixes action with comedy, directed by Walter Hill and starring Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy, in Murphy's first movie role. It was released on December 1982 in the US and became one of the most grossing films of that year, also praised by critics. '48 Hrs.' also launched Eddie Murphy's film career and he was nominated to a Golden Globe for his work in this movie.
The movie starts when a San Francisco police unit where agent Jack Cates (Nolte) works must catch two dangerous criminals: Albert Ganz and Billy Bear, who have just escaped a maximum security prison. In their first encounter with the police, the assassins start a shooting killing two cops of the unit.
That is why detective Cates has no other option to ask Reggie Hammond (Murphy) for help. Hammond is a hustler who is in prison but knows very well Ganz and Bear, and they owe him money. The twist: Hammond has only 48 hours out of prison to catch the two criminals before returning to his jail.
'48 Hrs.' made short of 80 million dollars only in the US, compared to a 12 million budget, making the movie one of the most prosperous films of the decade. The movie also stars Annette O'Toole, Frank McRae, James Remar and David Patrick Kelly.

Improvised dialogues
Most of the dialogues between Murphy and Nolte are improvised, although they almost break Murphy's career when he was told he wasn't funny in the movie.
James Remar preparation
To give his character a more psychotic look, actor James Remar used to go shooting his scenes with almost any sleep.
