Plot

Javier Linares Cadenas de Llano and Javier Linares Sabater direct 'Hispanic America: The Legacy of the Waves', a documentary about the conquest of America in the 15th century financed by the Catholic Monarchs. In 1492, after unifying the kingdoms of the peninsula, monarchs Isabel and Fernando gave Christopher Columbus their approval to undertake one of the most famous missions in history, which led to the conquest of unknown lands, their evangelisation and the spread of European culture across the ocean

This documentary tells the story of how Spain became the sovereign power of a vast territory for three centuries, starting in the region of Cartagena de Indias. It explores the figures of Pedro Claver, ‘apostle of the slaves’; Pedro de Heredia, one of the national conquistadors; and Francis Drake, the well-known privateer. All of them lived in Cartagena de Indias, and 'América Hispana: El legado de las olas ' tells part of their story

'América Hispana: El legado de las olas ' was shot in Cartagena and Madrid over five weeks. To put together the bulk of the documentary, the help of historians such as Elvira Roca Barea, Niko Roa Cilla, Alberto Samudio Trallero, Jorge Dávila Pestana-Vergara and Ximena Avilán Díaz was enlisted.

It will be released on 6 February 2026, distributed by Moon Entertainment.
