Suicide

The director, Hu Bo, committed suicide right after finishing the post production of the film, making it his only one ever.

Director and writer

Hu Bo is, also, author of a storybook, 'Huge Crack' (which contains 'An Elephant Sitting Still', as well as a novel 'Bullfrog', both published in 2017.

Awarded

The film was released during 2018 Berlinale, where it got the special mention for the best debut and got de FIPRESCI. For the next months the film got numerous awards from the public in different international festivals.

Disciple

In 2017, Hu Bo participated in a workshop organized by Bela Tarr. A very enriching experience where he filmed his shortfilm 'A man in the Well'. Many critics have seen in 'An Elephant Sitting Still' some nuances that remind them the Hungarian director.
