Children of Las Brisas

'Children of Las Brisas' is a documentary directed by Marianela Maldonado. It was filmed over ten years in Venezuela, perfectly exemplifying the harsh living conditions faced by the neighbors and friends of the country due to the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro. This environment is even more intensified by his recent victory in the general elections, as many believe the votes were manipulated.

Within this tension, a group of young people belonging to an orchestral association is presented. They manifest in the streets of Venezuela throughout their instruments. For example, the mother of one of the protagonists ends up mad with him because he puts his life in danger by going to the protests and constantly practices at home with his violin.

The rest of the young protagonists will attend the orchestra group every day to improve their education and confront the system in the suburbs of Valencia. The script has been co-written by the director, Marianela Maldonado, and Jessica Wenzelmann. The cast includes Edixon Yánez, Dissandra Viloria, and Wuilly Arteaga. This is the film that Venezuela has submitted for the 2025 Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.
