The fourth movie starring Keira Knightley, with a soundtrack composed by Dario Marianelli. Previous movies were "Pride & Prejudice", "Atonement" and "Anna Karenina".
This story and some stylized scenes were also borrowed from the 1998 IMAX film also titled "Everest."
Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) was the first person to climb Everest 5 times, his wife Jan (Keira Knightley) went on to be the second New Zealand woman to summit Everest. (Lydia Bradey was first).
Keira Knightley and Sam Worthington previously starred together in the movie "Sólo una noche" (2010).
The film is based on various books about the 1996 Mt Everest disaster, including Jon Krakauer's "Into Thin Air", and interviews with survivors.
A consultant on the movie, survivor Lou Kasischke, published his account of the Everest tragedy in his book, "After the Wind."
Robin Wright and Michael Kelly are co-stars in the Netflix series "House of Cards" (2013).
Þráinn Sigvaldason was set to be in this film but couldn't make it.
Jason Clarke replaced Christian Bale in both this film and "Terminator Génesis" (2015).
Christian Bale was attached to play the role of Rob Hall, but left to appear in "Exodus: Dioses y reyes" (2014) instead.
