Gaua

In the 17th century, during the witch hunts and among the mountains of the Basque Country, Kattalin goes out into the forest, fleeing from her violent husband and leaving the farmhouse where they both are, in the middle of the night. As she crosses the deep darkness of the forest, she feels an entity, a presence, chasing her, filled with fear. 

Three women washing cloth in the river appear to her on the path. Among them, they share tales and horror stories, narratives and rumors about the village, increasingly unsettling. Kattalin will realize that these stories are not just gossip, but a warning for her to be aware of the possible dangers that will lurk in the forest. In any case, she will end up becoming part of those stories. 

Paul Urkijo, director and author of great works such as 'Irati' (2022) and 'Errementari' (2017), returns with a third feature film in 2025: ''Gaua''. His festival circuit has been successful, receiving acclaim from critics at the Sitges Festival and a fruitful opening at the Week of Fantastic and Horror Cinema in the 73rd edition of the San Sebastián Festival.

Starring Yune Nogueiras ('Akelarre'), well accompanied by Ane Gabarain ('Patria'), Elena Irureta ('Patria'), and Iñake Irastorza ('Aupa Etxebeste!').
