Plot
It’s the 1980s in Spain and Migueli has just been released from prison. ‘'Golpes'’ tells the story of a criminal who has completed his sentence and returns to the streets. He wants to move forward and continue with his life, but in order to achieve that, he first wants to settle past matters and heal old wounds.
He needs a large sum of money as quickly as possible. So he arrives in Seville and gathers his old gang with a purpose: to get the money through heists. They target bank branches and jewelry stores, but they don’t stop there; they have one final destination, the first casino in the city.
Migueli thought he could do it and come out free of accusations. However, his brother, Sabino, is now a police officer and has been put in charge of the investigation into his brother. This becomes a Achilles' heel for the gang.
Sabino knows Migueli's way of operating and, despite sharing blood, is determined to catch him. Neither is willing to back down. Migueli is driven by his ambition and the desire for justice from those who make up his past and have left their mark on him. Resentments, betrayals, and the ghosts of his history are a motivation that defines his life.
‘'Golpes'’ is a bet to revitalize traditional quinqui cinema, but through a more subtle and reflective perspective. Precarity, crime, and violence meet with historical memory, blood ties, and the deep wounds stemming from Spain's Transition.
Action and intimate emotion, accompanied by documentary images, narrate this confrontation not only familial but also portray life in Spain at a time full of social changes that permeate the family environment and destabilize it.
