Hotel Royal

'The Royal Hotel' is a British-Australian thriller directed by Kitty Green with script by Green with Oscar Redding. It is inspired by the documentary 'Hotel Coolgardie' and stars Julia Garner and Jessica Henwick.

Hanna (Garner) and Liv (Henwick) are two American best friends and work mates who decide to change their life and go backpacking to Australia. After running out of money, Liv convinces Hanna to look for a job and they both end up as in-house waitresses on a hotel-pub called 'The Royal Hotel' in a remote mining city of the Australian Outback.

What at first starts as a funny and warm introduction to the new arrivals, it starts transforming little by little into a living hell surrounded by alcoholic men. Amongst them is the owner of the pub, Billy, as well as most of the male residents of the town. Soon Liv and Hanna become involved in a series of situations that escape their control, and that 'The Royal Hotel' depicts how different they both react to them.

It is the second time that Green and Garner work together after 'The Assistant' in 2019. 'The Royal Hotel' has travelled across a multitude of film festivals, from Toronto to San Sebastián, earning usually very positive reviews.
