'KPop Demon Hunters' trivia and fun facts

Maggie Kang

According to co-director Maggie Kang, the Maltese tiger and magpie duo whose names were not revealed in the movie are named Derpy and Sussie, and the reason why they can travel between the human world and the demon world is because they are not demons, but Korean supernatural creatures. She based them on a famous Korean folk painting of the Tiger and the Magpie.

Saja Boys

There is a deeper meaning to the name "Saja Boys." The Korean word "saja" can mean lion and we see that their logo and branding include lion imagery. However, in Korean folklore "jeoseung saja" are grim reaper figures who escort the souls of the dead to the afterlife. Typical depictions of jeoseung saja show them wearing a black hanbok and a gat (wide brimmed hat) just like the Saja Boys in their demon forms.

Hunmoon

Hunmoon translates to "Soul door".

Golden

During the release of Golden a bus stop can briefly be seen, the stations name is in Korean and a little easter-egg for korean speakers as the name is "This bus stop", the next bus stop is named "Next bus stop" and the previous named "Previous bus stop".

Keep down the run-time

Several extra stories were cut from the movie to keep down the run-time, among them were Huntr/x and Saja Boys competing in a physical sports arena and Jinu's sister growing up to be the first hunter.

Hot 100

The soundtrack has four songs in Hot 100's top 10s simultaneously, surpassing Saturday Night Fever and Waiting To Exhale, each of which had three songs in the top 10 simultaneously.

Netflix

The film received 325 million views within its first 91 days of release, making it the most-watched Netflix film, surpassing Alerta roja (2021), which received 231 million views in that timeframe.
