Juan and Carmen are a poor couple living in Madrid. She is a housewife who usually participates in radio contests and he is a stagehand for a movie studio . After trying many times, Carmen wins a contest sponsored by a brand of soap, the same day that Juan was fired from his job and he is cheated in business he was riding . ' That happy couple ' marked the beginning of a new era of Spanish cinema, besides being directed by two masters of spanish cinema like Juan Antonio Bardem and Luis Garcia Berlanga.
