The Legend of Ochi

‘'The Legend of Ochi'’ is an American film directed by Isaiah Saxon. This family film project features well-known faces such as Finn Wolfhard and Willem Dafoe.

This story takes us on a fantasy adventure. It takes place in a remote village on an island called Carpatia. Yuri, a shy peasant girl (Helena Zengel), has lived her entire life under a stellar rule in her upbringing. Throughout her life, she has learned that she should be afraid of a species of animal called Ochi.

Yuri has heard all kinds of stories about these fearsome creatures of the forest. Her father, a passionate hunter, leads a group of teenagers who go out at night to search for them in order to catch them. During the pursuit of the little animals, Yuri comes across an injured Ochi cub. 

The animal she finds in a trap is nothing more than a defenseless and vulnerable cub. That thought makes the young girl look at the Ochi with different eyes. She finds herself at a crossroads: does she betray the animal in her hands or shelter the baby that looks at her without aggression and with fear?

This decision becomes a pivotal moment in her life. In that instant, as she is carried away by compassion, she confronts the hunters and faces family rejection. Moreover, it is a rebellion against the education she has been taught since childhood, which will make her reconsider her beliefs and begin her journey to discover her own identity.

The little animal will help her redefine her essence through a journey of transformation. From an obedient girl who adhered to the values instilled by her family to a young woman who imposes her own principles and acts according to what she deems right.
