A trilogy
'The Other Side of Hope' would be the second part of a trilogy on emigration in Europe. It is a thematic trilogy, without continuity. The first film in the trilogy was 'Le Havre' in 2011 about an undocumented African emigrant.

Prior the film's release director-producer Aki Kaurismäki and his long-time set decorator Markku Pätilä got into dispute on how the credits are listed in the Finnish titled version
