The Virgin of the Quarry Lake

'The Virgin of the Tosquera' adapts two short stories by Argentine author Mariana Enríquez: one with the same title and the other, 'The Cart'. Within a code of terror, fantasy, and intrigue, we follow Natalia, Mariela, and Josefina, three inseparable friends living on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. All are in love with one of their childhood friends: Diego. However, it is Silvia, a slightly older and more down-to-earth young woman who suddenly appears, who manages to seduce Diego. To reverse this situation, Natalia seeks help from her grandmother Rita and the story delves into the darkness of black magic and spells.

'The Virgin of the Quarry Lake' is set in the hot summer of 2001, after an outbreak of great violence that plunged Argentina into a complex and deep economic and social crisis. Laura Casabé is the director of this script adapted by Benjamín Naishtat, as part of a co-production between Argentina, Mexico, and Spain. 

The lead actresses in Casabé's feature film are Dolores Oliverio as Natalia, Isabel Bracamonte as Josefina, Candela Flores as Mariela, Fernanda Echevarría portraying Silvia, and Agustin Sosa as Diego. 

'The Virgin of the Quarry Lake' had its premiere at the Sundance Festival in 2025 and has received several nominations and awards at these celebrations. It arrives in Spanish cinemas on January 23, 2026.
