The film received a record 23-minute standing ovation after its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt's involvement in the film as executive producer (which he joined a few days before the film's world premiere at the 2025 Venice Film Festival) drew criticism on social media due to the actor never mentioning Palestine nor supporting a ceasefire between Israel and Palestine (as opposed to the other producers and executive producers), and also his history of publicly supporting Zionists, such as his friendship with former IDF lieutenant Neri Oxman; being spotted attending a concert by former IDF soldier Asaf Avidan in Paris in December 2023; and being photographed at events hosted by Israeli producer (and former Israeli Intelligence agent) Arnon Milchan, who is close friends with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Pitt was also criticized for attaching his name to a film about a child that was brutally murdered, as it was seen as an attempt to clear his image while he was being accused of physical violence toward his ex-wife Angelina Jolie and their kids.
Venice premiere
Alfonso Cuarón, Jonathan Glazer, Brad Pitt, Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix joined the film as executive producers shortly before its world premiere at the 2025 Venice Film Festival. Only Mara and Phoenix attended the film's Venice premiere and press conference.

Hind Rajab
Hind Rajab doesn't appear in the film, only the recording of her real phone call to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (Palestine's emergency service) is featured in it. Director Kaouther Ben Hania said she decided not to have an actress portraying Rajab out of respect. She also had the support of Rajab's mother to make the film.
