Began in 1954 as an assistant cameraman to leading post-war Italian cinematographer Gianni Di Venanzo.
Childhood
The son of a Roman camera operator and a flower seller, he grew up in impoverished circumstances.

Carlo Di Palma was a member of jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 1992.
Long career
Internationally known for his collaboration with directors Michelangelo Antonioni (notably 'Red Desert' and 'Blow Up') and Woody Allen (for whom he worked on ten films over a period of ten years). Di Palma received a lifetime achievement award at the European Film Awards in 2003.
Parentage
Uncle of cinematographer Dario Di Palma.
