We the Hispanos: The Hispanic Roots of the United States

José Luis López-Linares directs this documentary that explores the deep imprint of Spain and Hispanic heritage in the formation of the United States, coinciding with a very special date: the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. The vast territories that today make up the American nation have, for the most part, Hispanic roots that often remain invisible or forgotten. This documentary delves into that heritage, tracing from the expeditions of Coronado and the influence of Viceroy Gálvez to singular figures like María Jesús de Ágreda or Junípero Serra. 

It also shows cultural and social connections that endure: the Charros of Salamanca and the Cowboys, the musical richness of the Spanish Tinge and its influence on the Blues, the imprint of Mexican Baroque and the architecture of the Missions. Spain and its American territories have left a legacy that continues to shape customs, music, gastronomy, and language in the United States, but which is often neglected or ignored. 

This documentary seeks to rescue and reclaim that Hispanic root, showing how, over five centuries, it has contributed to forging the identity of a country that today hosts the second-largest Hispanic community in the world.
