'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle' has overtaken 'Spider-Man' as Sony's highest grossing production in the US

The 2017 remake of the 1995 classic, 'Jumanji' has become Sony's most successful film in the US.

'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle', starring Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan has become one of Sony's highest grossing films to date. The film has done so well Stateside that it's about to overtake the studios' current most successful production: 'Spider-Man'. The 2002 film, directed by Sam Raimi, raked in $403.7 million.

The 'Jumanji' sequel took the box office by storm after the first week in January, stealing the thunder from Rian Johnson's 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'. Despite its success, no one could have imagined that the film would do so well: its global taking to date sit at $950,769,063!! That figure is only set to grow with the recent release of DVD and Blu-Ray versions of the film.

Globally, 'Welcome to the Jungle' sits just behind 'Skyfall' who's global takings totalled to $1.1 billion. According to Deadline, the former film has brought in more profit for Sony studios than other titles in recent years with a figure of $305.7 million.

The film's success

'Welcome to the Jungle', which revived the original 1995 film starring Robin Williams, has been a huge success. The new film tells the story of four school-aged teens who are sucked into the 'Jumanji' video-game and play characters who are the complete opposite of their real selves. News of a sequel has also recently hit.
