The fourth season of 'Sherlock' is upon us and we now have the certainty (more or less) that it will not be the last. We can finally sleep easier at night! Our favourite detectives, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman respectively, have been made to wait in the same way as us, however they promise to return with more force than ever from 1st January 2017, the confirmed date for when the new season will start on BBC.

Arthur Conan Doyle's infamous detective has of course been modernised, as he arrives with several new innovations and although this season promises to be much darker than the last, between theses new additions to the series however it be can't avoided putting a slight touch of tenderness to the story as well providing many opportunities to laugh.

After meeting Mary Morstan in the last series, who is played by Amanda Abbington, we will now see a full Watson family, as they show baby Watson in these newly released images of the fourth season of 'Sherlock'.

The worst villain of all

Apart from showing us John and Mary Watson as proud first parents, we can also see pictures of actor Toby Jones who plays Sherlock's newest opponent. He plays the character of Culverton Jones, who appeared in Doyle's 'The Adventure of a Dying Detective'. It will show another side to the character and will add a new twist to Holmes' villain, which has already been confirmed by the creator of the series, Steven Moffat, that he will be a completely different type of bad when he claimed the character is "the most evil villain we have seen in the series yet".

So, here you go, below are some of the new images from the fourth season of the series...
