'The Walking Dead' fans are disappointed, shocked and outraged, following the latest episode of the show. The mid-season finale saw character Carl (Chandler Riggs) written out of the storyline after it became apparent that he'd been bitten, and fans aren't happy about it. In fact, some fans of the comics, written by Robert Kirkman, have even gone so far as to sign a petition asking for showrunner Scott Gimple to be fired from the show. The petition, started on change.org has already gained 20,000 signatures.

Those of you who saw the episode, will know that Carl's death is imminent. Whilst this isn't the first time, TWD has bid farewell to one of it's main characters, this particular death does pose a problem, given that Carl Grimes is still live and well in the comics. In fact, according to the comics, Carl may even be the only survivor left standing; it's been revealed that Carl has something to do with both the beginning and the end of the apocalypse. Such a storyline would go to waste, if the show continues with it's plans to kill off the character. Although there've been a lot of theories regarding Carl's potential escape from death's clutches, we doubt they're very likely to come true.

 Carl Grimes

According to the petition, the outrage hasn't just come about over the storyline and it's lack of loyalty to the comics, but also because of the lack of consideration AMC have shown actor Chandler Riggs. The actor had considered deferring his entry to university, with the thought that he'd attend once the show finished, in about 3 years time.

The Petition

The petition was started by Tyler Sigmon, a particularly disgruntled viewer. Sigmon expressed his dislike over how Gimple has caused the show to stray significantly from the comic storyline. You can read the rest of what Sigmon had to say and the petition on change.org

We'll have to see what measures AMC take following the petition, if they even respond, that is. One thing for certain however, is that the number of signatures continues to rise.
