The Latin inscription "Ab uno disce omnes" on the back wall of King Silas' Board Room translates as "From one learn all".

The basic plot of the series is loosely based on the Biblical story of King David, and many of the character and place names are the same as they appear in the Bible.

The character Jonathan is portrayed as being gay. Many scholars have in fact theorized that the Biblical Jonathan may have been homosexual, given the intimacy of his relationship with David.
