Locked Up

('Vis a vis') is a prison suspense series produced by Globomedia and aired in Spain by Antena 3.  The thriller shakes up Spanish television drama with an intense, violent, and emotionally charged plot. 

Cruz del Sur is a women's prison in Spain where a heterogeneous group of inmates coexist. In the midst of all that chaos, Macarena, the protagonist, suddenly appears, who finds herself behind bars after being deceived by her lover in financial matters. 

Once behind bars, she will have to deal with ruthless killers, a doctor who abuses his power in prison, and a warden who seems unwilling to see what is happening in her facility. 

All of them will make Macarena's life miserable, so she will soon learn to share her days with the only people she can trust, her cellmates. 

As the series progresses, it delves deeper into the exploration of various concepts. It explores themes such as loss of identity, abuse of power, and the thin line that separates being the victim from being the executioner.

Characterized by a dizzying pace, constant plot twists, and a raw aesthetic that does not glorify or idealize confinement but rather shows the reality of life inside a prison. It depicts the day-to-day life of people living in a context where freedom ceases to be an option.

The series stars Maggie Civantos, Berta Vázquez, Alba Flores, Najwa Nimri, and Inma Cuevas, among others.

It was canceled after its second season and later brought back thanks to FOX.
