Mar afuera

‘Mar afuera’ is a Spanish drama TV series set in an extreme environment where isolation, secrets, and emotional survival are as important as the sea itself. It follows a group of workers stationed on an ocean platform and the inhabitants of the small coastal community that depends on it. What begins as a chronicle of routine at sea soon turns into a collective narrative about personal conflicts.

Produced by RTVE as a commitment to large-format drama: the series combines thriller, human drama, and a strong emotional charge. Its first season premiered in 2025 and consists of eight episodes. It was designed as a self-contained story but with the possibility of continuity.

Among the protagonists are Gabriel Guevara and Hugo Welzel, accompanied by Laura Simón, Miguel Barraga, Nekane Magaña, Imèn Akandouch, Julen Katzy, Dani Marrero, Natalia Azahara, Marcel Serrano, and Pablo Louazel. Alongside them, the cast includes more established names like Itziar Atienza and Carles Francino, which adds solidity to the adult characters and reinforces the contrast between the youthful world and the authority that structures the drama.

Since its premiere, it has drawn attention for its unusual setting in national fiction, its careful photography in maritime settings, and its focus on human relationships under extreme conditions. It has been praised for its adult tone and its ability to combine suspense with social portrayal.
