Deanna, the leader of Alexandria, has the biggest character change from the comics. The leader in the comics is actually a man named Douglas. Deanna's husband, Reg, is named Regina in the comic, and is Douglas' wife.

While the word "zombie" is not used in the show, it is featured multiple times in the comic books and the video game series.

The logo seen on the T-shirt of Rick's son Carl is that of another Robert Kirkman creation, "Science Dog".

In Season One, of the 20 characters at the camp, only 11 are actually from the comic book. Rick, Lori, Carl, Shane, Dale, Glenn, Andrea, Amy, Jim, Carol and Sophia.
