9 Bullets

'9 Bullets' is an action thriller with biographical elements written and directed by Gigi Gaston. It is one of the few films that was shot in Los Angeles during the pandemic. Its premiere took place in the United States on April 22, 2022, while in almost the rest of the world it was released on platforms or video on demand.

The protagonist of the film is actress Lena Headey, who plays Gypsy, a former burlesque dancer who wants to turn her life around by dedicating herself to writing while rescuing Sam, her young neighbor, who has just witnessed the murder of his parents. Thus, the action unfolds as she tries to protect the boy from the pursuit of the local mafia, to whom she owes $750,000, while attempting to complete her memoirs.

'9 Bullets', which features a surprising ending, received mostly negative reviews. Only Lena Headey's performance garnered some praise, while the rest of the script and character development were savaged by critics.

The film is loosely based on a real character, Gypsy Rose Lee, whom the film's director personally knew. Gypsy's memoirs, published in 1957, led to the well-known musical of the same name that premiered two years later. Despite everything, '9 Bullets' is set in the present day.
