Plot

First feature film directed by Granada-born director Violeta Salama, 'Alegría' was at the 18th edition of the Seville European Film Festival, where it was screened out of competition; in addition to being shown at festivals in Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. Written by Isa Sánchez ('321 days in Michigan') 'Alegría' explores the reality of religious diversity through the lives of four women whose destinies come together after an event. Starring Cecilia Suárez, Laia Manzanares, Mara Guill and Sarah Perles, the cast is completed by Leonardo Sbaraglia, Adelfa Calvo and Emilio Palacios, among others.

Set in Melilla, the film narrates the life of Alegría (Suárez), who lives behind her Jewish roots, although she moved to the Spanish autonomous city and settled in the family home, where coexistence is not easy, as her family. They decides to settle temporarily in her house to organize her niece Yaël (Manzanares) with Jacobo (Palacios), a young man from Melilla. This sway, which will turn her life upside down, although he will hold on stoically for the possibility of being reunited with her daughter.

Luckily for her, she will have the help of her best friend Marián (Guil) and Dounia (Perles), a young Moroccan girl who works in the house, she will begin to connect with her roots and understand the importance of religious diversity, as well as see the differences that exist in each faith and that, really, there are more things that unite them than those that separate them.
