Bullet Train Explosion

'Bullet Train Explosion' is a Japanese action thriller directed by Shinji Higuchi with a screenplay by Kazuhiro Nakagawa and Norichika Oba. It is a sequel to the 1975 classic 'The Bullet Train' produced by the company Episcope for the streaming service Netflix, which will release the film worldwide on April 23, 2025.

The film is set on one of the famous Japanese bullet trains - Shinkansen - the Hayabusa 60 heading to the city of Tokyo. Shortly after departure, the Japanese railway company JR East receives a call claiming that the train is loaded with explosives that will detonate if it slows down below 100 kilometers per hour. After verifying the authenticity of the threats, a plan is devised to clear the entire route of the train and ensure the safety of the passengers.

When one of the terrorists demands a ransom involving all the citizens of the country, the situation on the train becomes public both inside and outside the Shinkansen, leading to intense scenes of tension. Now, they will attempt to attach another train moving at the same speed and transfer the passengers from one convoy to another in an effort to save their lives.

'Bullet Train Explosion' stars Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, Kanata Hosoda, Non, Machiko Ono, Jun Kaname, Hana Toyoshima, and Daisuke Kuroda among others. With mixed reviews, the film stands out mainly for being what it appears to be: a popcorn action movie without too many pretensions.
