Clemency

Bernadine Williams (Alfre Woodard) is completely dedicated to his job. In all the years she has been prison warden, she has ordered and witnessed the executions of many prisoners. Her role gave her some kind of recognition, but it has also made her sacrifice her marriage. When she knows Anthony Woods (Aldis Hodge), her last convicted, borns a special bond between them. Her relationship with this man resurfaces new doubts in Williams about her job. She starts to think about the moral implications of the dead penalty that she has brought over so many. This feelings brings a struggle with her next assignment: the execution of Anthony Woods.

'Clemency' is the second long movie written and directed by the filmmaker and producer Chinonye Chukwu ('alaskaLand'). The film is starred by Alfre Woodard ('12 Years a Slave', 'Luke Cage', 'Empire'), Wendell Pierce ('The Wire', 'Selma' 'Jack Ryan'), Aldis Hodge ('Hidden Figures', 'Straight Outta Compton', 'Leverage'), LaMonica Garrett ('Arrow', 'The Flash') and Richard Schiff ('The Man of Steel', 'The West Wing').

Its world premiere was in Sundance Film Festival. Here, it got the Great Prize Jury. It also won the Pinkenson Award in the Philadelphia Film Festival. The film was also nominated in the Film Independent Spirit Awards and the Gotham Awards.
