Death of a Cyclist

María José is a woman of Spanish high-bourgeoisie. Married with Miguel, she has an affair with a college professor, Juan Fernandez. After one of these secret meetings, while riding together in a car, accidentally run over a cyclist. In fear of reprisals if infidelity is discovered, they decide to hide the crime and flee. Seen as a fierce critic of the Spanish society of the time, during the Franco classified as "seriously dangerous", this film starring Lucia Bose, Alberto Closas and Otello Toso was the fourth production directed by the celebrated Juan Antonio Bardem, one of the more uncomfortable filmmakers with the Franco regime. Prize FIPRESCI at the 55th Cannes Film Festival and Prize of the National Syndicate of Spectacle from Spain for Best Picture.
