Plot

Depeche Mode: M is a cinematic journey to the heart of the complex and fascinating relationship that Mexican culture has with death. Under the gaze of renowned Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frías, the film becomes a sensory and spiritual experience that transcends documentary recording to explore the ritual and the emotional. Framed by the iconic performances of Depeche Mode during their 2023 Memento Mori tour, the film captures the three sold-out concerts that the legendary British band held in Mexico City before more than 200,000 devoted fans.

Through a montage that intertwines powerful live performances with interpretative images, symbolic sequences, and archival material, Frías constructs an intimate and collective portrait at the same time: that of an audience that turns each song into an act of communion, into a shared song in the face of finitude. The dark and melancholic sound of Depeche Mode merges with the colors, offerings, and echoes of a culture that embraces death not as an end, but as an essential part of existence.

More than a musical documentary, Depeche Mode: M is a visual meditation on memory, pain, celebration, and transcendence. A work where music, tradition, and emotion intertwine to pay tribute to what is profoundly human: the need to remember, to dance, to live… even in the face of death.
