Plot
'Arrebato' (1980) is today the great cult film of Spanish cinema and Juan Ricardo Miguel Zulueta Vergarajauregui, artistically known as Iván Zulueta, its director, a cursed filmmaker. It premiered 45 years ago at the Cine Azul on Gran Vía in Madrid, specifically on June 9, 1980. To this day, it is still considered the enigma it was in its time.
Zulueta anticipated the end of the Madrid movida with a dark and very raw film, with a story and an underlying story intimately connected to each other, and to the life of the filmmaker himself. This work turns out to be a premonition of what it would later become over the years: like its main characters, Iván Zulueta would end up consumed by drugs and cinema, and, like them, he too would gradually disappear.
'El último arrebato', directed by Marta Medina and Enrique López Lavigne, is a film that navigates between documentary and fantasy cinema to unveil the secrets behind this iconic film and the intriguing disappearance of its director, a film about obsession and cinephilia addiction. A reflection on how to lose track of time within a film.
The film premiered at the San Sebastián Film Festival, the same place where 'Arrebato' also competed in 1980.
