Plot
In ''Emergency exit'', director Lluís Miñarro transports us to a work that arises from contemporary magical realism. He constructs a road movie with touches of drama and comedy that takes viewers to a world where the tangible and the dreamed become the experience that composes the reality of fiction.
It takes place in a place that cannot be pinpointed on a map, in a large anonymous city. The plot begins at the city’s bus station. A place that hosts all kinds of different situations. From greetings to farewells, from smiles to tears, from sighs to silences.
It takes us along the route of line 8 where an old vehicle heads to a place called “Circunvalación”. The path and the destination are uncertain, as are the reasons why the characters decide to get into the vehicle.
On the journey, there are a total of fourteen passengers. Throughout the trip, the characters show different versions of themselves. Their own identities mutate, their memories blend with dreams, and they move to the rhythm of the vehicle along the border between the real and the imaginary.
The external merges with the internal. The lights of the city become reflections of fears, life confuses with death, and dreams with day.
The story builds a metaphor of transit, limit, liberation, and confinement. It calls into question the idea of salvation as well as the trap of life's destiny. The physical and the transcendental move along the path towards an exit or ending that no one can define.
