Plot
Henri Danglard, proprietor of the fashionable (but bankrupt) cafe 'Le Paravent Chinois' featuring his mistress, belly dancer Lola, goes slumming in Montmarte (circa 1890) where the then-old-fashioned cancan is still danced. Nini, a beautiful girl that works in a laundry shop, is hired by Monsieur Danglard altogether with other attractive young ladies to join his theatre company. Danglar wants to open a new cabaret in Paris, the Moulin Rouge, where the greatest attraction will be the "Can Can". Nini is seduced by Danglard, despite she has a boyfriend. On the other side, the Prince Alexandre is his biggest admirer. All this will only bring troubles. After 15 in the United States, this film was the spectacular come back of Renoir to his country.
