Plot
Jordan Peele, Oscar winner for Best Original Screenplay for 'Get Out', and the production company Monkeypaw Productions ('Us', 'Candyman', 'Nope!') explore in 'The Best' the darkest side of fame and the extremes to which a person can go to be number one.
Directed by Justin Tipping ('Kicks') and written by Zack Akers and Skip Bronki ('Limetown'), the film follows Cameron Cade, played by Tyriq Withers ('I Know What You Did Last Summer'), a quarterback destined for stardom whose career is jeopardized after suffering a brain trauma when a deranged fan attacks him.
Just when his future seems to be crumbling, Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans), a football legend, appears and offers to train him at his private center alongside his wife Elsie (Julia Fox).
After accepting, hopeful for the opportunity to recover, he soon begins to realize that the training turns into something unsettling: Isaiah harbors dark intentions and pushes his protégé into a spiral of ambition, manipulation, and sacrifice that threatens to destroy him.
The film, distributed by Universal Pictures, also stars Tim Heidecker ('Us'), Australian comedian Jim Jefferies ('The Jim Jefferies Show'), MMA fighter Maurice Greene, and hip hop artists Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack.
