Based on a graphic novel
The film is an adaptation of graphic novel 'I Want to Eat your Pancreas', wrote by Yoru Sumino and illustrated by Izumi Kirihara. The novel was a best-seller in Japan.
Thanks to a web
In 2014 Yoru Sumino started to post his novel 'I Want to Eat Your Pancreas' on a webside. A year later, Futabasha's editorial published it in papel with Ioundraw's illustration. When the manga's get adapted, the illustration were made by Idumi Kirihara.
Another adaptation of the novel
Besides the present adaptation, Shô Tsukikawa has directed an adaptation in real-action with the same name in 2017.
