In 1939, at the end of the Spanish Civil War, Esperanza, a young curator at the Prado Museum, becomes embroiled in a mystery when a Francoist colonel interrogates her about the disappearance of a valuable work of art. The painting in question is one of many that the military wants to seize, but the fate of the artwork remains uncertain as Esperanza struggles to protect her heritage. Her involvement puts her in a dangerous situation, as the new powers attempt to seize cultural treasures and, at the same time, suppress any resistance or subversion.

Eighty years later, in 2019, Aurora, Esperanza's granddaughter, begins her own investigation to discover what happened to the painting and her grandmother, whose trail was lost in the darkest days of the Franco dictatorship. Aurora, with the help of old documents and accounts from the time, searches for her grandmother's remains in one of the mass graves of the Franco regime, where many were buried without justice. Through this search, a story of silent resistance and personal sacrifices is revealed as Aurora confronts the scars that the war left on her family and on the collective memory of Spain. The connection between the two generations of women is the thread that weaves through a plot exploring the impact of historical memory and the struggle for justice in a country marked by its recent past.
