Plot

Film adaptation of the novel by French writer Emile Zola. A mentally unbalanced train machinist falls in love with one of the passengers, a woman who happens to be married but no longer feel anything for her husband. Gradually the protagonist goes from being a simple rail operator to skirt madness with behavior that achieves the misogynistic and violent. Thus, during the journey which usually covers between Le Havre and Paris, he is involved in an intense story of jealousy, tension and crimes almost no one can get away with. Starring Jean Gabin ('Les miserables', 'La Grande Illusion'), Simone Simon ('Cat people') and Fernand Ledoux ('The Longest Day'). Directed and scripted by French filmmaker Jean Renoir.
