Unlike most of French comedies, the characters are well constructed, with a naturalism that's unlikely in the hysteria of that French cinema that has gone crazy by imitating the tics of Boon.

A human and wise comedy built upon the territory when the potentiality of the tragedy resides. Tardieu knows that limiting to entertain is a restriction to the possibilities of a genre that, well driven, can be an efficient instrument to unravel the human.

Without moving the whole towards the territory of drama, this adds a tone less sweet and more reflexive to 'Just to be sure', a comedy in which, in the end, what primes is a joyful tone and a background that, even if it's eminently positive, it luckily doesn't reach the ignorantly politically correct of some successes from its neighbour country.

There's complexity and sensitivity when it comes to the treatment of the characters and relationships established between them, but at the same time the plot is developed in a light, human and tender way. And above all, there's the interpretative genius of François Damiens.

The director, Carine Terdieu, has the quality of not highlighting the melodramatic and not looking for the gag or the burst of laughter, which make the threads coexist with the cloth itself, and without the tangle being more colored than the emotions and simplicity and good construction of the characters.

What is it to be father or child? This question holds what one doesn't know if it's a drama or a comedy, with only one character knowing what happens but without ever taking part in the vaudeville: on the contrary, it's about hiding the suspected whenever deep affections arise. It's obviously a gallery of characters looking for some screenwriters, who create them making them nice, stuck in a mess that tangles everyone and pleases everyone.

Cleverly written and winningly cast (...) The lively, intricate screenplay by Tardieu, Raphaele Moussafir and Michel Leclerc (...) is deft enough to seldom seem over-contrived.

Sharp and funny (...) A charming tale of multiple quid pro quos that?s as light-hearted as its subject matter is deadly serious.
